Moon Flower Grasslands

The farther south you travel from the center of the desert the more rain falls. This rain turns the dry desert into a lush grassland valley. Here grasses and wildflowers of all kinds grow to dominate the wide open territory. Unfortunately due to the surrounding landscape and weather conditions the valley is prone to getting hit by tornadoes, bad thunderstorms, bad wind storms, flash flooding, and becoming covered in wildfires. For some reason though, this place is the only place in the world where the beautiful moon flower grows mixed among the various wildflowers of the region. Unlike all of the others, the moon flower will open up at night and close up during the day. Moon flowers come in all colors except for purple and can cure any known illness afflicting dragon kind when eaten for a prolonged period of time.

Sweet Pine Barrens

The valley turns into pine barrens near the shallow mountains in the far south. Hardy pitch pine trees grow here over dunes, wildflowers, and grassland. The area here often catches on fire from lightning strikes, dragon flames, and by plain old dry weather. The pitch pines are fire resistant which keeps them alive through all of the brush and forest fires that hit the area. The cones and seeds of the pitch pine trees germinate only after they have been set on fire, and then saplings begin to grow where the grasses and wildflowers were burnt away. Of course grass and flowers fill in the areas once more soon after a fire has died out. Though it takes about a week for seeds to germinate.
