Dark Maelstrom

This area can be found where the continental plate rises up after meeting the more dense oceanic plate under the blue sea several miles away from the beach. A trench leading down to a crack between the oceanic and continental plates funnels one particularly strong ocean current. A second current closer to the surface strengthens and weakens with the tides. The times when the tide is going in or going out these currents fight with each other to form the largest maelstrom (whirlpool) ever seen on any planet. At nearly 72 feet in width this whirlpool sometimes takes too much time to decrease in velocity when the currents have calmed; so the whirlpool just powers up again without stopping as the tides come in. Only the strongest of swimmers can swim through or among the currents of this maelstrom. Among the strongest swimmers would be water specific dragons and sea serpents.
